Mana is a Polynesian word that means ‘power’ or ‘authority’. It’s used to describe the force of nature that inspirits all Life and gives us the ability to create experiences, heal, & grow. Some find it easiest to think of their mana as their overall physical, mental & emotional energy.
All mana belongs to the same limitless Source, which expresses itself infinitely through the various forms of life that embody it. Every thing that exists in the universe has some inherent power — every human, animal, insect & plant; earth, air, fire & water; even intangible things, like, ideas, beliefs, & emotions. If it exists, it is participating in the co-creation of the Universe and, therefore, has mana.
Each being has a sort-of predisposed mana. But we humans also affect our mana levels with what we eat & drink, how we breathe & move, and how we use our mind. Generally speaking, when we are pono (taking ‘right’ action, or living in alignment with our Highest Self), our mana increases.
When we have high levels of mana, we experience:
- vitality, health & fortitude - pleasure, gratitude & peace - a sense of self-efficacy
When we have low levels of mana, we experience:
- lackluster or ill health - pain & suffering - a sense of helplessness & victimhood
